|The EMRHL sent a
team down to Glastonbury, CT to play in a couple of house teams at the new
Z-Rink facility. Z-Rink is a very nice hockey rink, but has some issues of
their own as we found out before the teams were "allowed" to take the
court exactly at 10:00am.
At 10:05am the lights were almost fully lit, and the tourney got underway. The games were much different than the usual EMRHL games, as offside and icing were like a bald spot on Wally's back, nonexistent.
In addition to the bigger rink, the house ruled called for using a liquid filled hockey ball, which took the Scorpion Bowls a couple of games to get used to. After getting shredded by the Pepsi Express in the first game, the Scorpion Bowls played much better against the Guppies, but lost that one as well.
In the second round things got better. The EMRHL'ers managed to tie the Pepsi Express, and then Jason Rizzo scored on his penalty shot attempt while Bill Collins stopped the Express attacker, as the EMRHL Scorpion Bowls won their first game.
The Bowls continued their winning ways by knocking off the Guppies to even their record at 2-2. A nice lob pass play by Rizzo and Dave Gardner sprung Chris Spuglio for the game winning goal on a breakaway.
In the playoff round, the EMRHL Scorpion Bowls beat up on the Pepsi Express, as even the 38 year old Commisioner managed to score a goal in that one. The Cinderella story came to an end in the Finals, as the Guppies took care of the EMRHL'ers without much problem 4-2.
A good time was had by all, especially those who ventured down on Saturday night. (Ask about the sea horse and the Circus chick if you get a chance.)
