Neither goalie could come up with a big save until the goalies took shots on each other at the end of the shootout. The Guitar Heroes outshot the Rainbows 52-28, but Spencer was allowing the softies to get by him, and that's what kept the game close...again. John Morrison opened the scoring, then added another later on. "I've been scoring on Spencer for 10 years now," said Morrison. "He couldn't save anything back in the Cage days, and he still is having trouble." EMRHL rookie Gennero Coscia would flip one in from center during a delayed call, and it slipped by Frosty to get the Heroes on the board. Frosty was solid in spurts, but every now and then he would match Spencer soft goal for soft goal. With the score 6-4 in the third, the Heroes struck for two quick goals. First Dennis tipped home a shot, then Gardner let a blast from center go that hit something and slipped by Frosty to tie it. Ray Binky gave the Rainbows the lead back on his third of the game with 3:52 to play. It came down to the final minute where the Rainbows were up 7-6. Spencer came out to push the ball up to Gardner, and Gardner flipped one in on Frosty. The save was made, but sub Fab would bonk it in out of the air to tie the game at 7-7 with 40 seconds left. Neither team could score in the shootout, as finally the goalies started to make some saves. It ended in a 7-7 tie.
"If I knew Spencer was going to play like
this, I would have taken Kenny or Melanson," said Gardner. |
